Information sources for the making of folk costumes
In the refugee camps, handicrafters used various sources of information for making folk costumes – books people had brought from Latvia, as well as reprints issued in the refugee camps. Folk-costume makers shared information with each other, copying into notebooks patterns, designs, colour combinations and sizes. Colourful postcards with national costumes from different regions were also popular – they became a benchmark for the Latvian folk costume and a source of inspiration for many Latvians around the world.
